Thirtieth edition of Eskdale Art Show to take place in May

The show is scheduled to take place from Saturday, May 25 to Monday, May 27. 

For three decades the show has been a 'cornerstone' of the community in the village and has raised over £100,000 from Eskdale Primary School, providing 'invaluable support' to enhance its facilities. 

The event is organised by FOES (friends of Eskdale School) a team of parents, guardians, and village residents.

They describe the school as the 'life source of the community' and that it 'aims to ensure the preservation of rural communities for the future.'

The exhibition will feature an array of artworks including paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics, jewellery, and more.

Liz Stellmacher, headteacher at Eskdale School said: "We're thrilled to celebrate three decades of creativity and community support with Eskdale Art Show 2024.

"This event not only showcases the incredible talent of local – and even national - artists but also embodies the spirit of generosity and collaboration that defines our community.

"We invite artists and art enthusiasts alike to join us in this celebration and support the future of Eskdale School."

There were around 550 exhibits sold at last year's event with artists collectively earning £11,000 in sales.

Last year a new Biodome was unveiled, part funded by proceeds from the Art Show and GDF partnership. Opened by James Dickaty - vice chair of the local Royal British Legion branch and Ged McGrath, of GDF. 

This was the first of its kind for a Cumbrian school, they described it as an "Eden in Eskdale" which was designed to 'instill a love of nature and cultivation and promote positive mental health'. 

There were also pieces included by students from St Bees School. The show aims to support young artists by promoting the talent in the local area.

The organisers explain that the show has garnered a strong reputation over the years and attracts over 1,000 visitors annually.
