A PRIMARY school in West Cumbria held a 'Dress to Express' Day.
Kirkland Academy, near Frizington, held the event this week which saw pupils come to school in something that expressed their personality.
Helen Shore, a staff member at the school, said: "We held a ‘Dress to Express’ Day on Friday, March 1. Children came into school dressed in something that expresses their personality.
"We had a great variety, from children dressed in clothing representing their hobbies such as football, Girl Guides, and gymnastics to favourite colours and interests such as animals and nature and we even had a rock star, equipped with an electric guitar.
"We wanted to celebrate children’s uniqueness and let them express themselves. The idea stemmed from the theme of Children’s Mental Health Week which was ‘My Voice Matters’.
"Being a small school, we know every child well and this helps us to create a supportive environment for all children and their families.
"The School Council devised and delivered an assembly to start the day off which they certainly did us proud with.
"The day was full of opportunities for children to be creative in their own chosen ways and they could show or perform their creations to the rest of the school."
