Haltwhistle man raises money for Northumberland Greyhound Rescue

Terry Christie who owns the Manor House Hotel in Haltwhistle has raised over £1,500, with the help of members of his Freemasons lodge the Duke of Connaught Lodge No 3892 for Northumberland Greyhound Rescue in Morpeth.

The Northumberland Greyhound Rescue has been a registered charity since 2004 and is run by volunteers who rescue and re-home greyhound dogs from Northumberland.

Mr Terry Christie said: “Greyhound’s make great family pets and unfortunately the dark side of the sport of greyhound racing is that when these beautiful dogs stop winning races or become too old to run at that high level, they need to have a home, that’s where this great volunteer organisation comes in.

"The Northumberland Greyhound Rescue Charity take in these lovely dogs that would otherwise probably be abandoned on the streets.

"This wonderful charity work with dogs and train them ready to be adapted to live in a family home, the charity makes sure the dogs are looked after, well fed, trained, fully vaccinated and have new collar and lead when they leave with their new family.

"The fact that everyone who works here and provides so much love and care for the dogs are volunteers is truly inspiring.

"Collectively between The Duke of Connaught lodge No-3892 members and my business The Manor House Hotel we have raised over £1,500 for the charity and will continue to support The Northumberland Greyhound Rescue”.

Tina Pile, a committee and volunteer member at the charity said: "We are very grateful for the support of Terry and the freemason's support.

"Last year we homed 70 dogs, so I think we do quite well for a small charity.

"So far this year, we have rehomed 11 dogs and we hope to see the nine dogs that we have now with us in happy homes too.

"All we ask when rehoming the dogs is an adoption fee of £190 and you got the essentials such as a collar, so all you need is a dog bowl and a coat."
