YOUTHS are being urged to take care while playing football this half term after a motorist was left with a cracked windscreen.
The incident happened at Cleator Moor Square when a football was kicked into the road and hit the windscreen of a car driving past.
No one was hurt in the incident which police have warned was ‘very dangerous’.
A spokesperson for Copeland Police said: “We've had several incidents of youth related anti-social behaviour reported to us.
“In one incident at Cleator Moor a football was kicked into the road and cracked someone's windscreen, a very dangerous act but thankfully no one was hurt.
“If this is your ball, you can collect it from Whitehaven Police Station by Monday, February 19. We'll have a little chat about criminal damage.”
Michael Eldon, who represents Cleator Moor West on Cumberland Council, said: “It’s unfortunate that a car has been hit by a ball but young people have been playing football on the back of that Square for years.
“If it appears that they are kicking balls deliberately at cars then that’s when it becomes an issue. It’s very dangerous.
“I would like young people to consider the danger if they are kicking the ball deliberately at cars. It could be a member of their family. It could cause a crash.
“I don’t want to stop them enjoying playing football but they just need to be more careful.”
