POLICE have seized a vehicle for being driven by a driver with a provisional license and not showing L plates.

The passenger of the vehicle has also only passed their test that same day and for not fit to be monitoring the driver.

A Cumbria Police spokesperson said: "2165 and 1837 are back out again targeting criminals on our county's roads.

"This time, towards the end of their shift, they spotted this car. Checks conducted found that the owner of this vehicle had a provisional licence, but it was not showing any L plates.

"When speaking to the driver it became apparent that his front seat passenger had only passed his driving test that day. And was not insured to drive the vehicle.

"The law states that to sit in and accompany a learner driver you must: be over 21, be qualified to drive the type/class of vehicle you want to learn in have held a full driving licence for three years (not three hours).

"Needless to say, we got this vehicle seized under Section 165 RTA for no insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with their licence. So six points before they even pass their driving test."
