A CLUB in Egremont is looking to bring paddle boarding to the people of West Cumbria.

ACE Paddle Boarding School is a Community Interest Company established through the Transforming West Cumbria Spark program, it is funded by Sellafield Limited's SiX and has additional support from The NHS Green Social Prescribing Development Fund.

The group explained that they were founded with 'a vision to break down barriers associated with paddleboarding, particularly the perception of it being a middle-class sport.'

They aim to make paddle boarding in North West Cumbria more affordable, easily accessible, and inclusive.

The group hopes to help more people experience the physical and mental health benefits that paddleboarding provides.

Colin Fox, director of ACE Paddle Boarding School said: "Paddleboarding is not just a recreational activity; it is a holistic wellness experience that promotes mental and physical health.

"We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to engage in this enriching activity without financial constraints.

"Unfortunately, the charges imposed by some paddle board providers in the Lake District National Park contribute to the perception that it is an exclusive sport.

"ACE SUP School seeks to challenge this notion by offering affordable rates and a diverse range of paddleboards suitable for all needs.

"The benefits of paddleboarding extend beyond physical fitness. Spending time outdoors, breathing in the fresh air, and immersing oneself in nature have proven to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, and alleviate inflammation."

The group is based in Egremont and is in the process of finding an indoor practice centre where they will be able to train people.

This will most likely be a swimming pool in the West Cumbria area.

Mr Fox continued: "Our initiative encourages individuals to connect with nature, improve their overall well-being, and combat the negative effects of sedentary lifestyles.

"We are proud to offer the widest range of paddleboards in Cumbria, catering to various preferences and needs.

"Our hire service, not only the most cost-effective in the region, helps fund heavily discounted lessons.

"We envision providing free paddleboarding lessons through Social Prescribing for individuals facing common mental health illnesses, social inclusion challenges, poverty, discrimination, and bullying."
