NEARLY one year on from opening her own dance school, twenty-year-old Olivia Wood has now opened her own dance studio alongside her growing business.

Ms Wood opened West Coast Dance in early 2023 but has decided to open her own studio so that her dancers could have their own space.

This also means that Ms Wood and her dancers would have more freedom with classes, so they can prepare for their all important competitions and shows.

The new dance studio means that West Coast Dance has its own dedicated space that is not shared with others, and is simply for 'dance and dance only'.

Ms Wood said: "It’s something I would've absolutely loved to have when I was dancing myself, so to be able to offer this to my dancers is amazing."

The new studio, which is located on Queen Street is Whitehaven, means that she is now able to offer more classes and a wider ranges of classes which is crucial as the dancers continue their preparation work for competitions that take place in the next few weeks.

Ms Wood published a new timetable to the West Coast Dance social media accounts showcasing the wider range of classes that the new studio has allowed.

Reflecting on the last year, she said: "The dance school has been going amazing. We’ve done carnivals, competitions, awards nights, themed nights and more.

"They have all had such a nice atmosphere and we have enjoyed every single one.

"I would not have been able to open the studio without my friends and family's help and support and the amazing support of all the dancers and their families."

Looking to the future, she said: "As long as the dancers I teach continue to enjoy what they are doing and keep pushing to improve, I am happy!

"To see what they have all achieved in just 10 months is absolutely unreal considering most of them have never had any dance training. I am excited to see what they will be like in years to come."
