VOLUNTEERS at The Solway Hall in Whitehaven made Christmas meals for those in need.

The meals were served on Christmas Eve to around sixty people.

The initiative was supported by two Whitehaven town councillors, Edwin and Gemma Dinsdale.

Those who attended were old-age pensioners who would be spending their Christmas alone.

Mr Dinsdale said: "Gemma and I donated £500 of our ward grant money towards the event.

"Anne Kelly and The Solway Hall team do a brilliant job supporting our community and it was a pleasure for us both to play a part in this very worthwhile course.

"We would also like to thank the Whitehaven Town Council clerks for working extremely hard and getting this grant money processed before the dinner took place on Christmas Eve.

"We hope all the pensioners, Solway Hall staff, and volunteers had a fantastic time at the event and we would like to wish them all a great Christmas and a very happy New Year."

A spokesperson from The Solway Hall added: "A huge thank you to Edwin and Gemma Dinsdale from Whitehaven Town Council who have donated £500 from their ward grants for our Christmas Eve dinner we are having for people on their own this Christmas. Thank you and Merry Christmas."
