PUPILS at a primary school have created Christmas cards to give to the elderly.

Children at Kirkland Primary School have made their cards to deliver to elderly people in the Kirkland and Rowrah area.

Katie Robinson, the headteacher at the school, said: "The children at Kirkland Academy have been creating as many Christmas cards as they can to send out to the local community, especially those people who are elderly or living alone.

"The children have made 78 cards which they will deliver to people in the community.

"One of the pupils, Erin Thompson, came up with the idea last year as she said that she knew someone who'd been alone during Covid and had made an effort to do doorstep deliveries.

"It's something that started last year but will be continuing every Christmas time.

"Last year those who received the cards were really pleased and there was a Women's Institute event planned in the village hall so many cards were taken there to be given to people.

"This time Erin will be going doorstep to doorstep to deliver the cards."
