Moor Row Community Primary School is hosting an open day for parents with little ones preparing to start nursery.

The event, on December 5, aims to acquaint parents with the school's offerings for children who are eligible to begin nursery in January, April and September.

Parents of children starting reception in September are also welcome to attend.

The open day at Moor Row Primary School will take place in three timed slots throughout the day: 9.30am–10.30am, 1.30pm–2.30pm, and 4pm–5pm.

Parents will have the chance to explore the nursery, reception and early years class, learn about the curriculum, meet staff, and tour the school and outdoor areas.

Parents will also have the opportunity to ask questions and find out how to apply.

Moor Row Primary School has small class sizes, which they say allows for extra focus, a committed and experienced staff, and a focus on outdoor play and learning.

The school offers an abundance of learning prospects beyond the standard curriculum.

Recent endeavours include the Years 3 and 4 students making strides to improve the biodiversity of the school grounds and devise an open-air classroom useable by all subjects, particularly science.

And following on from the success of a John Muir Award last year where they identified areas that could be improved, the children have been busy ordering 125 new trees for the grounds.

As part of the Bright Stars Award the children set up a social enterprise, asking members of the community and local businesses to sponsor a tree or name one in memory of someone.

They have also been making a variety of bird feeders, working in conjunction with Bechtel Cavendish, which are on sale at the school.

The generated funds will support the School Outdoor Fund and the Jigsaw Children’s Hospice.

Moor Row Primary School also scored a grant from Learning Through Landscapes, a victory only shared by two other educational institutions in Cumbria.

This grant has furnished the school with an assortment of educational outdoor resources, including seed bombs to create a wild flower field, and has further cultivated the staff's outdoor education techniques through a custom training course conducted by Little Chatters.

The school recently became a member of the Virtual National Education Park.

This engagement will offer the students the chance to input environmental data to be compared with other schools across the nation.

The school is also arranging a seating area featuring logs and a storytelling chair to foster a comprehensive learning experience.

Sport and Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education are also integral to the school's approach to holistic development.

For example, the school recently hosted an inspiring wheelchair basketball workshop led by former world champion, Nat Pattinson.

His engaging storytelling of his journey from adversity to success left a significant impact on the students.

The workshop, aside from imparting basketball skills, underscored the power of resilience and the possibilities accessible to anyone determined to succeed.

The school fosters a nurturing and inclusive environment with a strong focus on enabling every child to tap into their potential.

Moor Row Primary School is welcoming all interested parents to their open day event, and although no booking is necessary, they encourage a quick call to their office to assist with refreshment preparations.
