YOUNGSTERS and staff at a west Cumbrian nursery school are celebrating after receiving a glowing Ofsted report.

Frizington Nursery & Pre-School has been praised by the education watchdog for its ‘ambitious and exciting curriculum’ and ‘calm and nurturing environment’.

The inspection report says: “Leaders have provided a broad, ambitious and exciting curriculum that takes account of children’s different stages of development. All children benefit from this same strong curriculum, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).”

Ofsted inspector Karen James also noted the school’s ‘sharp focus on supporting children's speech and language development’

The report says: “Adults are experts at promoting children’s communication and language skills. They make sure that they speak clearly using language that the children understand. They ensure that children have the time they need to think about what they want to say.

“This helps children to feel confident about speaking, for example to share their thoughts and ideas. Children develop strong communication and language skills over time, including those with SEND.”

Headteacher Charlotte Oddie said: “We are delighted with our recent Ofsted report which highlights our exciting and ambitious curriculum that has been designed for the children to develop a love of reading.

“Our staff work tirelessly to ensure all our children have the very best start to their ‘Early Education’, we are pleased that inspectors recognised this.

“As a Headteacher we want all our pupils to develop a love of learning from the moment they step through our doors, we are thrilled the inspectors could clearly see “Children love their Nursery. Their excited chatter fills the air as they arrive, full of enthusiasm for the day that lies ahead.”

“Our report celebrates all the efforts of our passionate staff and governors who work together with our families to create this unique setting, providing Early Education from birth.

“We always welcome new families to come and join our wonderful Community Nursery School and we have an open-door policy for prospective parents to come and look round our Nursery.”
