Police confiscated a knife of a youth of just 13 years of age this week. 

Cumbria Police had been conducting stop and searches in the Whitehaven area due to concerns raised by residents of youths carrying knives. 

A man was also arrested on suspicion of burglary after stealing items from Tesco.

A spokesperson said: "This evening PC's Sarah 2241 and Sarah 2503 have carried out stop searches at Hensingham following concerns raised by a member of the public about some youths possibly in possession of knives. The pictured lock knife was found on one youth who was aged just 13. 

"They have also apprehended and arrested a male on suspicion of Burglary after he stole items from Tesco, store staff helpfully followed him allowing officers to be directed to his location quickly."
