There were reports this week of a person in the water in the outer harbour at Whitehaven Marina in need of assistance.
On arrival, Police and marina staff had managed to lower a throwline and buoy to the casualty.
A spokesperson said: "A Coastguard Rescue Swimmer was immediately deployed to stabilise and recover the casualty to a safe point for extraction, allowing the team to recover and hand over to the care of the ambulance crew.
"Both St Bees RNLI and Workington Lifeboat were tasked to the incident and underway to scene, only being stood down once both the casualty and rescue swimmer were confirmed to be out of the water and safe.
"The swift and efficient response by all assets ensured a safe and successful water rescue was effected, both for the casualty and coastguard rescue swimmer."
