For today's Nostalgia edition we will be taking a look back at the year 1987.

36 years have passed since this time and things are quite a bit different than they were all those years ago.

This was a time when Margaret Thatcher was reelected during the June general election, making her the longest continuously serving Prime Minister since Lord Liverpool in the early 19th century, Ford launches a facelifted Sierra range which now includes a saloon model called the Sapphire, the Church of England's General Synod voted to allow the ordination of women, Rosie Barnes won the Greenwich parliamentary seat for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) from Labour at a by-election and Everton won the Football League First Division title for the ninth time in their history.

It was also a time when British Rail renamed Second class travel as Standard class and footballer Peter Beardsley, the 26-year-old England striker, became the most expensive player transferred between British clubs when he completes a £1,900,000 move from Newcastle United to Liverpool.

There was also a great deal happening here in Whitehaven at this time too. Here at Newsquest we've searched back in our archives to find some of the best photos from this time, we hope that you enjoy this trip down memory lane just as much as we have.

We can see a pantomime at the Civic Hall, the Whitehaven School sixth form from that year and a number of photos from the Whitehaven fun run of 1987.

Other photos show school children enjoying the snow at Monkwray School in January of that year.
