This week Newsquest staff visited a cafe in Whitehaven to try their special, limited, menu which was introduced for the Coronation.

Cafe West in Whitehaven introduced a three-course Coronation themed menu, especially for the Coronation of King Charles III.

The menu consisted of a starter of coronation chicken soup, a cheese quiche with broad beans, spinach, and tarragon as a main served with new potatoes and salad, and Victoria sponge cake as a dessert.

The main dish is the official meal of the coronation this year and will be enjoyed by people across the country this Bank Holiday weekend.

To start off, the soup was very rich and flavourful, it had a mild curry taste with lots of tasty pieces of chicken in the thick sauce.

The soup was served with a caraway wigg, which was a piece of bread, this was served with butter and was the perfect accompaniment for the soup.

The main was equally tasty, there was a nice big slice of quiche with fresh salad and new potatoes.

The potatoes were cooked perfectly in butter and were very creamy and tasty. The quiche was also enjoyable and was packed to the brim with the aforementioned fillings.

The salad and coleslaw were a great add-on and offered a nice balance of freshness when paired with the quiche and potatoes.

By the time it got to dessert, I was already very full and decided to get the Victoria sponge cake to take away.

There was a large slice of cake, freshly made with lots of jam and cream in the middle. I was then given some fresh scones with butter to try which, like the cake, were quite simply delicious.

The staff were all very friendly and made it an enjoyable experience, offering fast and reliable service that goes unmatched.
