FOR the whole of March the featured exhibitor at Lowes Court Gallery is Rachel Metcalfe of Gosforth.

This will be the first time that Rachel’s art has had major exposure in Lowes Court, and she is showing a group of paintings under the collective title of ‘Edge.’

Rachel is an artist who explores a place through the experience of walking. Inspired by the natural world and its phenomena, she records her walking journeys through sketches made on location.

She then translates her drawings into paintings using a range of media

Ms Metcalfe said: "They were inspired by walking journeys through the West Cumbrian fells where I feel most at home.

"I often find myself gazing at a dramatic rock face or stood at the top of an ‘Edge’ admiring the beauty and wildness of the landscape around and below. Please gaze at the paintings and develop your own interpretations.’

"Bright colours abound in these landscapes, poetically used to loosely weave the patterns into pictorial unison."

Lowes Court, on Main Street, Egremont, is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 1.30pm, and Rachel’s work is on display until April 1.
