For this Nostalgia edition we will be taking you on a trip back in time to years gone by in Whitehaven.

Our town is a truly fascinating one with a rich history of sailing, mining and other trades which the area has been a focal point of.

Here at The Whitehaven News we have found some truly fantastic photos from decades past of our town.

We wanted to share them with you and show you what life was like in our town and the surrounding areas some years ago.

Let us know if you feature in any of these photos or know someone that does, we hope that you enjoy this trip down memory lane just as much as we did.

Our first photo shows the now derelict church on Scotch Street with cars and people passing by going about their day to day business. Whilst our second photo shows buses outside the bus depot which was abandoned for a number of years, it has since been turned into a popular eatery and bar, The Peddlar, with upstairs offices; whilst the neighbouring building is now The Bransty Arch Wetherspoon's.

On our third photo we can see the now closed Burtons store during the 1960s with its windows full of suits. Whilst on the fourth picture we can see a heavy load on King Street Whitehaven bound for Sellafield in May 1958.

In the fifth picture there are two policemen photographed PC Reed and Sgt Thornthwaite in May 1957 with their police vehicle.

We can also see two children posing for a photo on Monkwray which overlooks the town centre of Whitehaven and a night time view of the harbourside on two photos.
