This week Cleator Moor residents were able to enjoy an exhibition showing miniature models of landmarks in the area.

Guests at St Mary's Church Priory Club were shown creations by local man Phil Toman.

The models depict scaled down depictions of St Mary's Church itself as well as its grotto and other places like Keekle viaduct, the old Kangol factories and the now closed Commercial pub.

The Priory Club meets one Tuesday out of every month and is organised by volunteer Sean Close.

It is for those aged over 60 and gives them a chance to socialise whilst also enjoy other entertainment.

Phil Toman explained how he made some of the models, he said: "I decided to make the models after my sons got a model trainset off their granda. As I was taking it apart and putting it together, I decided to put it on a base board and realised that it looked a bit bland, so I decided to add some features to it.

"That's how it all started, and I then made a complete model of Cleator Moor market square which went into the library and Civic Hall, but it was given away.

"Hopefully it will have gone to a good home as a lot of work went into it. I was given a magazine by Sean Close which had a picture of St Mary's Church on, so I decided to make a model of it. I then came down to the church with my grandsons and took some photos of it.

"I worked on that and then started taking a look around Cleator Moor, I started noticing the old Kangol works and created a piece inspired by that. I then created an even bigger piece modelled off Keekle viaduct.

"I went onto make models of the Commercial pub and a row of old terraced houses which would have been the homes of miners."

All the guests enjoyed the display which will be in the church's Parish Room until Sunday, October 31.
