Floral arrangements and touching messages of condolence are being left in memory of Her Majesty The Queen.

People are being encouraged to pay their respects to the late monarch by leaving flowers at the Gazebo in Whitehaven’s market place.

Copeland’s MP Trudy Harrison and Elected Mayor, Mike Strakie are among those who have already left floral tributes.

Residents are asked to remove all wrapping and plastic as the flowers will be recycled after the official period of mourning.

Artefacts will not be accepted and should not be brought. Candles will be accepted but must be laid on a sandy area.

Tributes may be moved for security reasons and to preserve the longevity of the flowers.

Decayed flowers will be removed offsite for composting.
