A new car park in Cleator to reduce traffic problems could cost £20,000 to build.

Cleator Moor Town Council is looking into solutions to congestion on Prospect Row and Main Street after an “urgent need” for extra spaces was highlighted.

Cleator resident and builder Antony Stones contacted the town council saying that the situation had worsened in recent years, and he was concerned about safety with the increased number of parked cars on the street.

One solution being considered is to use some of the existing green space on Prospect Row, which is owned by the council, for a 12m x 43m car park.

However, an estimate for the work came in at £20,000 which councillors at a recent public meeting said was “a lot of money”.

Clerk Helen Gilmour said the council was now in “preliminary stages” of looking into the problem.
