ALMOST £1,000 was raised at an event in memory of a six-month-old baby.

Hope Winter, of Distington, suffered from a rare heart condition. She died last year.

Hope spent three months in the children’s heart unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle where she underwent several operations.

Her parents, Lisa and Michael, of Main Street, were able to stay at the Sick Children’s Trust’s Scott House.

The family fun day, at Dean Primary School on Saturday, was to raise cash for the trust and the heart unit.

Lisa said: “There’s one special little girl looking down on us and we’re sure she’s proud of everyone who donated.

“Thank you to everyone who helped and attended the fun day.

“Even though the weather was rubbish, you still came and supported us.

“Everyone pulled together to make the day a success.

“The final total raised is £963.20 which is amazing considering the weather wasn’t on our side.”

Organisers also had to fight with a deflating bouncy castle.

Police officers, who were providing a van for children to see, had to use their leg restraints to fix the bouncy castle.
