THE music of Leonard Cohen will be performed on stage in Whitehaven this June, with multi-award winning musician Stewart D’Arrietta kicking off his UK tour in West Cumbria.

Rosehill Theatre will welcome the Edinburgh Festival Fringe hit show My Leonard Cohen on Saturday June 9.

Delivering bold interpretations of music from one of the most influential artists of the age, Australian composer and musical director D’Arrietta is taking his acclaimed live concert on a nationwide tour.

Returning to the UK by popular demand, following acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe seasons in 2016 and 2017, and a sold-out run at the Sydney Opera House, the show features imaginative interpretations of the great singer-songwriter’s most powerful works, performed by world-class musicians, and driven by D’Arrietta’s raw vocal style.

Classics Tower of Song, I’m Your Man, and Hallelujah are just a few of the 18 Cohen favourites given the D’Arrietta treatment, alongside the heartrending In My Secret Life, Closing Time and The Future.

Poetic anecdotes, punctuated with laconic humour, offer a narrative frame by which the audience can contemplate the life of one of the world’s most enigmatic songwriters.

Over the last two decades, D’Arrietta has enjoyed rave reviews and performed internationally, including at Montreal Jazz Festival, The Riverside Theatre in London, EX Theatre in Toyko and The Soho Playhouse in New York.

In 2007, he was musical director for The Beatles’ White Album Concert, performing at the Sydney Opera House with 15 other high profile artists. Other musical credits include Café Brel, Reunion, Tuxedo and the Little Black Dress and Satango, and composing for numerous features, short-form dramas and documentaries, including Emmy Award-winning documentary Faces in the Mob.

The show at the Rosehill Theatre on Saturday June 9 starts at 7.30pm, and tickets are available from the Rosehill Theatre box office.
