AMERICANA-INSPIRED Scottish singer-songwriter Jill Jackson will be appearing in Egremont to promote her brand-new album.

The Glasgow-based solo artist has just put out Are We There Yet? and will play songs from the record at the Florence Arts Centre on Thursday June 7.

After winning the acclaimed Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections, and being named as one of the top 10 acts tipped as UK Country’s Next Big Thing 2018, the new record sees Jackson step up to the next level.

Produced by award-winning producer Boo Hewerdine, her fifth studio effort has also been lauded as her best to date, and features contributions from some of Scotland’s finest musicians.

Having previously been signed as a pop artist to a major label back in 2002, supporting the likes of boyband Blue, she first burst on to the UK music scene as a member of Speedway, with whom she scored several UK top 10 hits, including a cover of Christina Aguilera’s Genie In A Bottle.

When the band split in late 2005, Jackson embarked upon a career as a solo artist and developed a more authentic Americana musical style.

Jackson has intentionally remained under the radar as she made the transition into country music.

Her solo work is heavily influenced by Americana and country music, sometimes with a hint of bluegrass, citing Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell, Rolling Stones, and Emmylou Harris among her biggest inspirations.

She spent a lot of time on the road supporting and touring with artists such as Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Albert Lee, and Roger McGuinn, as well as writing for former Spice Girl Melanie C.

Jill Jackson appears at Florence Arts Centre on Thursday June 7, from 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the venue's box office.
