RADIO 4 comic and TV writer Simon Evans will be bringing his latest stage show to Whitehaven at the end of June.

The stand-up, who has appeared on Live at the Apollo and Mock the Week, will perform his Edinburgh Fringe show Genius at the Rosehill Theatre on Saturday 30.

All Simon Evans really wanted, since he was a small boy, was to be recognised by the world as a man of genius. Remaining thwarted thus far in this aim, Genius is his 'magnificently pessimistic' commentary on our society's decline into trivia.

His unrelenting diatribe against the modern world and its descent into inanity is the perfect showcase for his hilarious, scornful and razor-sharp wit.

Evans has been headlining comedy clubs nationwide for more than 20 years, performing all over the world, including Singapore, Cyprus, the Persian Gulf and comedy festivals in Aspen, Colorado and Montreal.

He made his first solo appearance at the Edinburgh Festival in 2000, and has been a regular there for the past decade.

He has written for Lee Mack's sitcom Not Going Out, the panel show 8 Out Of 10 Cats, and Armando Ianucci's Charm Offensive on BBC Radio 4, and written jokes for Dara O'Briain and Sean Lock.

He is best known for his Radio 4 series Simon Evans Goes to Market, and has also written and performed on the station on The Way It Is, and featured on the News Quiz and The Unbelievable Truth.

Simon Evans performs Genius at the Rosehill Theatre on Saturday June 30, from 8pm, and tickets are available from the venue's box office.
