In an entertaining and hard fought game, play went from end-to-end with no quarter given or taken.
Liverpool slowly got the upper hand in the first half to take a lead of 27-19.
But the second half belonged to Whitehaven. They pressed hard to the final whistle and were unlucky not to come home with a win.
Liverpool kicked a final penalty as the referee blew the whistle, handing them the game.
Danny Dougherty ran in two tries for Whitehaven, with more from Jon Glover and Garry Roe.
