Daniel Crooks was victorious in last weekend’s St Bees 10k event, organised by West Coast Challenge Events.

Crooks was the first home in 42 minutes and 52 seconds, with Adam Nichol second in 44.21 and Stephen Hackley third in 45.24.

Nadia Shaw was the first woman back in 48.12, just ahead of Vicki Carter in 52.34.

Alan Bowness claimed the honours in the 15k in a time of 52.32, with Paul Graham just over two minutes behind him in 54.40.

Rachel Mellor won the women’s race in 1.08.46, Sarah Bell second in 1.17.11.

There was also a 5k course on the day with James Gray taking victory in 19.09, ahead of David Bowness in 20.01, with Julie Townsley the first woman to complete in 29.28.

Altogether 102 runners took part, having travelled from all over the county.

The next event is a sportive at Silloth on August 14 followed by another cycle event at Cleator Moor on September 18, which normally attracts around 300 riders.
