WHITEHAVEN RL have confirmed that James Newton and Neil 'Gus' Frazer will remain as head coach and assistant coach until the end of the 2028 season after an exclusive announcement post-match in front of hundreds of Haven supporters.
The club is delighted to have secured two local coaches following three successive victories, which have moved the club up the Championship table.
Also announced was the return of the club's community foundation as the club looks to establish more links with our local community off the field.
Whitehaven RL CEO Lee Butterworth said: "We just wanted to announce what our intentions were over the next couple of years.
"We think it's important to keep fans in the loop. Muzza went at the start of this season, and James and Gus have stepped up into that role.
"They've been doing a fantastic job. The amount of work, time, and effort that Newts is putting into it has been unreal."
He continued: "Where we've been as a club, I think there's been a lot of taking, a lot of taking from the community, a lot of taking from fans to keep us going.
"Without that, we probably wouldn't be here. What we want to do is bring back the community foundation for 2027.
"We want to start giving back to our community. The number of schools that have been in touch asking if we can get players to come in."
Mr Butterworth said that with work commitments on top of training and playing matches, it's hard to get players into schools.
He said that a new player who will be a 'recognised face' will be coming back to the club to run the community foundation full-time.
This player will be going into schools with the aim of promoting rugby league in the area.
The club is looking to bring in the Lions Development Programme, an open-source programme from the RFL.
The RFL have been wanting professional clubs to push this initiative, which Mr Butterworth says The RFL will be doing in 2027.
