WHITEHAVEN Rugby League secured a victory in their game over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
The West Cumbrian side faced off against the Keighley Cougars.
Haven took on the Yorkshire outfit at home at the Ortus Rec, coming away with a 16-14 victory.
Head coach James Newton was ecstatic with the result after getting his first home victory whilst in charge.
Mr Newton said: "It's one of those where it's a win-win sort of scenario.
"I think it was something like 30 odd errors in the game, I've never watched a game of rugby like it. It was really tough to watch.
"But we spoke about it at the start of the game to give ourselves a chance of winning the game, and we did that towards the end.
"I'm really proud, really happy, and we can take a bit of confidence from it."
He continued: "The message was just to try and complete a set in that second half, but we started the game just as I wanted.
"We started really well defensively, we were good with the ball, and we went 8-0 up and I'm looking at it there, thinking if we get one more try here, we kill Keighley off.
"But again, we're really good at errors, and then the penalty errors, and then we just gave them field position, and obviously they got over the line.
"But I'm just really proud at the end there, we could have easily folded, they had some opportunities to drop goals, etc.
"We put some good pressure on fouling, we were dogged on line, we got back up field there, and Ciaran slots the two to get the win, so I'm just over the moon."
He continued: "One of the things we spoke about this week is what our actions are on the back.
"There are going to penalities, there's going to be errors, so we're going to have to defend our line, we're going to have to go through tough periods.
"But what's our reaction to those errors, and there's more of a reaction today, we were definitely better on line defence.
"It wasn't pretty with the ball at all, but we take the win."
