WHITEHAVEN Rugby League have faced another defeat this weekend.
The West Cumbrian side faced a 22-12 defeat against Dewsbury away.
The club and fans were disappointed with the result.
Head coach James Newton said: "We asked for a reaction defensively and we got that.
"I thought we managed their big middle really well, but we just lacked a little bit of smarts in good ball.
"I just thought our last tackle options were really poor, and I thought that's what let us down on the whole over the day.
"Their last two tries, they scored in the corner off two really good passes out wide. The wingers have taken them well, so they haven't come through the middle of us, but there was a reaction there, and effort. I can't fault the effort we got that.
"But just a little bit more smarts in good ball in those last tackle options."
He continued: "I thought we had plenty of opportunities in the second half, we just got a bit all over the place. Obviously, we're only playing with one recognised half-back in Keiren.
"But Jack's done a great job today, defensively, he was really good.
"Keiren took a whack in the first half, which I don't think he fully recovered from.
"I think that impacted Keiren in the second half, but here he's a tough kid and fair play for playing on.
"We had no other options in that position, but it was just those last tackle options and smarts that let us down at the right times."
He continued: "We worked for six weeks to get loans in, we need a half back, we get a half back in.
"We do team run on Thursday, and he rolls his ankle. We initially don't think it's that bad. We ice it, we think everyone's going to be okay for Sunday. He goes back down to Wakefield and calls me, and it looks like he has some ligament damage.
"When nothing's going your way, nothing's going your way, and that seems to be us at the minute."
