ANTHONY Murray has joined Swinton Lions as their new assistant coach.

The former head coach of Whitehaven RL stepped down from his role last week and has started working with the Lions’ coaching team.

He has made a "fantastic impression" on the squad, bringing "fresh energy and valuable experience."

Paul Wood, head coach of Swinton Lions, said: "Anthony Murray has come on board and is going to join the coaching staff.

"He was with us last week — he came down to training and added loads of energy.

"He’s been brilliant and brought an outside view and perspective.

"I’m really looking forward to working with him going forward and I think we will work well together."

He said: "I am really proud to be joining the coaching staff at Swinton.

"It’s a great opportunity to work with a talented young squad in a very competitive division.

"I’m looking forward to helping the players continue to develop and doing everything I can to support the head coach and the wider staff."
