Whitehaven Rugby League has secured loan signings for AJ Wallace and Lennie Ellis from Super League side Hull KR, initially for two weeks.

The loans come after Whitehaven head coach Jonty Gorley struggled to name a full 18-man team in a number of previous fixtures.

Wallace, 21, represented his country Jamaica at the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.

The second rower signed for Hull KR in 2024 after 43 appearances for Bradford Bulls in 2022 and 2023.

Ellis, who turns 19 on Monday, is a young hooker.

His acquisition offers him a first experience of Championship rugby since debuting for Rovers in their away defeat to Wigan Warriors during Round 21 of the 2023 Super League season.

Mr Gorley said: "I have to thank the VP’s, without them we wouldn’t be able to bring these guys in.

"AJ is a good back rower and it’s what we need as we have a couple of niggles in these positions.

"I’m told Lennie is tough and he is good around the ruck which will be music to Newt's [James Newton] ears with Jamie Doran being injured and missing for the next few weeks."

It is hoped that the incoming duo will strengthen the team ahead of their fixture against Featherstone Rovers this weekend.
