WHITEHAVEN'S Jonny Edgar secured his first Formula 3 win at Monza, leading an all-British podium in the final race of the season.

Despite enduring four safety cars, Edgar managed to come out on top. Starting from fourth on the grid, Edgar was elevated to third after pole sitter Oliver Goethe encountered an issue on the formation lap.

As the race began, Caio Collet took the lead, with Edgar and champion Gabriel Bortoleto close behind.

The first safety car period was triggered when Franco Colapinto stopped due to contact.

On lap 6 of 21, Edgar overtook Collet to take the lead. Bortoleto made a mistake at the Retifillo chicane, going off at Roggia and making contact with Gregoire Saucy prompting the second safety car intervention.

Collet briefly reclaimed the lead from Edgar, but the positions were swiftly reversed in the following laps before the third safety car period.

The battle for the lead intensified at the restart, with O'Sullivan challenging running side-by-side with Edgar into Roggia for the lead.

With just one lap remaining, another safety car was deployed, giving Edgar a chance to create a gap between himself and O'Sullivan. Edgar seized this opportunity and held on to win by a margin of 0.2 seconds at the finish line.

The victory marked a significant milestone for the MP Motorsport driver, taking his first F3 win in the season finale and topping an all-British podium.

Jonny Edgar said after the race: “I’ve just won the feature race here in Monza. I’m really happy for the team, we’ve had a really difficult year and yesterday we crashed, so the mechanics did a great job to repair the car.

"Everyone in the team did an amazing job today.

"The team won both races this weekend, so I think it shows how well the team has done.”
