Whitehaven RLFC continued their fantastic run of form on Sunday, producing a huge victory over the Widnes Vikings.

Giving his thoughts on Sunday’s 64-6 hammering, head coach Gary Charlton said: “I thought we were outstanding on Sunday. Defensively we were very solid and when we attacked, we were playing the ball about with pace.

“It was a very good win for us.”

The result meant that Haven have won five of their last six matches.

Discussing what this could mean for the side with a potential playoff spot in their grasp, Charlton continued: “When you put in a performance like we did on Sunday you can’t help but think of the positives.

“We played so well, and it gives me confidence going into the next month.”

Now in seventh place, the side travel to Yorkshire at the weekend to face fifth-placed Batley Bulldogs.

Talking up that fixture, Charlton said: “They’re a good team and are playing well.

“We are confident of going down there and showing up though and can produce the same level of intensity as we did against Widnes.”

As the season begins to wind down, Haven have put themselves in a great position to achieve promotion to the Super League.

The head coach insists that Haven fans need to come out and give the team all the support they need to push themselves to glory.

He said: “We’re playing some excellent rugby.

“The boys are putting in so much effort and they deserve more and more supporters along the sidelines watching Haven.

“They’re playing with smiles on their faces, and it makes for some entertaining rugby to watch.”

Whitehaven’s next home fixture will be a hotly-anticipated tie against third-placed Halifax Panthers on Sunday, September 12.

Tickets will be available on the day.
