A COMMUNITY tennis club is set to reopen at a new venue thanks to a grant from Sport England.
Whitehaven Academy will be the new venue for Whitehaven Community Tennis Club.
And the season starts with an Open Day on Saturday, April 10 from 10am until 2pm.
Whitehaven Tennis Club is also set to offer free introductory coaching for a term for juniors and the first six weeks for seniors, starting in April to encourage participation in sport after lockdown.
Teams from the club will be participating in the West Cumbria Tennis League.
They also have club and mix-in nights for those who just want to play social tennis or who are beginners.
A spokesperson for the club said: “Our aim is to get people back into tennis – all subject of course to Covid-19 restrictions. The club has been in existence for over 80 years and looks forward to welcoming newcomers this year.”
All ages and abilities are welcome at the club and encouraged to take up the sport for its fitness and social benefits.
More information about what the club has to offer is available on its website or Facebook page, or call Terry Jenkinson on 07834183019.
