AN EXCITING signing has been made at Whitehaven RLFC as competitive play gets underway this weekend.

Haven has signed utility player Oscar Thomas for a month's trial spell. Thomas, 27, is a Scottish International of 11 caps who can play as a full back, half back or a hooker.

London born Thomas has a wealth of experience at the top level having debuted at Super League in 2014 with London Broncos. The side were relegated after the 58-16 home defeat to St Helens but he stayed with Broncos for their 2015 Championship campaign.

Thomas has appeared for additional major names on the rugby league scene: London Skolars, Bradford Bulls, Sheffield Eagles, Swinton Lions and Rochdale Hornets, amassing 111 appearances.

Head coach Gary Charlton said: "I'm really pleased to have Oscar on board he has experience and has played at a high level, just in training we have noticed he talks a lot which is a good trait to have playing in the positions he plays."

"Hopefully he will be a great asset to the team and to be able to get Oscar up here for the next month is great for the club."

"We would like to thank Oscar’s agent Dave Peet for sending Oscar our way for the next month."

Thomas scored a tri for Scotland against New Zealand in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, contributing to 22 points for the side.

It is another exciting development for Whitehaven who kick-off their 2021 Challenge Cup campaign against Dewsbury Rams this evening.
