Andrew Carruthers became Hensingham Darts League’s 180 competition champion for 2020 in the St Begh's Club.

To qualify to play in this league competition, players had to have recorded a maximum 180 either in a league match or in a league competition.

The format for the qualifiers is to leave the lowest score possible from 1,001 using only 30 darts and each round the nominated number who left the least moved onto the next round.

This season 10 qualifiers played off to become the180 champion.

In the first round the group would be reduced to the four semi-finalists and after all of the players had registered their scores it was Carruthers (118), David Addison (176) and Neil Graham and Kieron Timmins both on (303) who went through to the semis.

In the first semi-final Timmins left a score of 310 – slightly less than Addison who finished on 338 – and in the second semi-final Carruthers' score of 197 moved him into the final, with Graham's challenge finishing with a respectable score of 488.

The final was a best-of-three event and the more consistent darts in the final came from Carruthers, who played a tactical game to win 2-0 and claim the title.

This Friday night is scheduled to be the league's presentation night at Lowca Rugby Club.

The league singles and doubles play-off finals are due to be held, along with the presentation of the league's trophies and prizes.

If the evening goes ahead, all qualifying players should be in by 7.45pm for an 8pm start.
