Thursday saw hound trailers make a trip to the picturesque Buttermere Valley, which seemed to have its own microclimate as dry conditions with the odd drop of rain turned to large hailstones, particularly as the seniors were finishing.

First up was the pups, with 13 taking to the trail and coming down the fell three were having a great race. Coming into the last field it was Brian and John Graham’s Tommy’s Lass with the advantage and she held off a challenge from Les and Pat Black’s Canny Style with Jenny’s Quest, currently trained by Lisa and Edward Crosby, third.

Twenty-nine seniors set off in wet conditions which only got worse as they were dropping down the finish where Roy Laidler’s three-year-old Cuckoo Lane held on strongly to take the win ahead of James and Emily Irving’s Overwater Sully with Caroline Clough and Barry Laidler’s Copperfield in third.

The all-in was won by Overwater Robert from Reebok and Hunter’s Dale.

Saturday saw a second trip to Low Place, Eskdale where Denise Bland’s Huntsman’s Prince took the spoils ahead of kennel-mate Jenny’s Quest with Sophie Steele’s Miterdale Fortune in third.

In the seniors, Stuart Smith and Nicola Wilson’s Prospect Spring took the win from Sophie’s Miterdale Duchess and Stephen Riley’s Companion, while the all-in was won by Prospect Spot ahead of Acorn and Dash.

Sunday saw the final of the Plumpton series where £800 was raised to be shared between Hospice at Home and Trail Hound Welfare.

Seventeen pups took to the trail where Bill Mellon’s Cracking Last One Two won ahead of Joanne Satterthwaite, Martin and Molly Burrow’s Thorn Rose with Les and Pat’s Canny Style third.

The seniors saw Bill obtain the double when Cracking Spirit beat Maurice and Abigail Bewley’s New Agenda with Carol and Vic Harrison’s Lillian third and the all-in was won by Thorn Fire ahead of Cracking Last One and Eden Raya.

Thanks went to Michelle Addison and David Clifford for promoting.
