Young Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson will hope to mark England’s 1,000th fixture tonight by earning his first senior cup.

Whitehaven-born Henderson, on loan at Sheffield United from Manchester United, was called into Gareth Southgate’s squad after Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton picked up a calf injury.

Henderson, 22, who began his career at Carlisle United, will want to earn a starting place for this evening’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro at Wembley (7.45pm kick-off) ahead of former Carlisle loanee Jordan Pickford and Burnley man Nick Pope.

“Everybody is ready for the game,” said Southgate who has dropped Raheem Sterling after an altercation with Joe Gomez.
