SUPER League star Kyle Amor spoke of his pride after helping his side St Helens to a 23-6 Super League Grand Final victory against Salford Red Devils.

The former Whitehaven prop, playing in his 300th professional rugby league game, put in a superb performance at Old Trafford, and told the News & Star: “To do it in my 300th game was fitting but it really wouldn’t have mattered if it was my 292nd game to be honest.

“I’m just over the moon to have won the Grand Final with a great team that has dominated Super League over the last two years and not really had anything to show for it.

“Every neutral was gunning for Salford but I think they now have to admit what a great team St Helens is.

“Justin Holbrook [who will be taking on the post of head coach at Gold Coast Titans in 2020] has done a great job turning this club around in the two-and-a-half-years he’s been here - we’ve lost just seven games in 59. And we’ve beaten a 124-year record by scoring the most points in a season.

“I can’t speak highly enough about this great club.”

Amor, 32, found time to sympathise with his former Hensingham ARL club-mate, Salford co-captain Lee Mossop, and added: “I went up to him after the game and shook his hand.

“I didn’t want to rub it in that his side had lost but said that we should be immensely proud that two ex-Hensingham lads had just played together on the game’s biggest stage.

“We talked about both signing a shirt to present to our old amateur club.”
