JONNY Edgar battled hard in the Italian F4 championship penultimate round at Mugello and helped Red Bull team-mate Dennis Hauger celebrate his overall victory.

Edgar scored up an impressive third in race one and then battled hard, picking up points in races two and three.

And Hauger wrapped up the championship by again standing head and shoulders above the opposition.

Edgar, of Asby, said: “The third in race one was good, I enjoyed that.

“It was strange, I seemed to struggle for grip when it was warmer and we’re not sure why,” explained the 15-year-old Briton.

“Free practice was quite cool and and the tyres worked well but Q2 not so much. I got some traffic but even without that I’m not sure I would have been much better.

“For race two we put in some older tyres to save the new ones for today.”

The 15-year-old added: “I was pushing in race three but then overdid it and lost four places.

“I worked back up again but in the end got stuck in a group with a slow guy in front holding us all up. It is very hard to pass here.

“Race one was different with it being wet, there were a different lines and more overtaking possibilities.

“I’m looking forward to Monza and doing better in qualifying.”
