There is no respite during the summer holidays for members of West Cumberland Orienteering Club.

In recent weeks members have attended the World Masters in Latvia; the Finnish 5 and Oringen in Sweden. However, the main focus – with over 30 members attending – was the Scottish 6 Days which took place in Strathearn, Perthshire.

The event attracted over 3,500 orienteers from 30 nations and providing six days of competition in areas renowned as technical, high quality orienteering areas; with the best four days’ results counting towards the overall placings.

There were many strong performances from club members, notably two making the podium in the M75 category – Mike Pearson taking the win and Tony Duncan third. Henry Teasdale also took the win in the M16B category and Jess Breeze was joint first on W18 short, just dropping to second on countback.

In the very competitive M16A, W16A and M20 Long categories there were second places for Joe Hudd, Caitlin Irving and Daniel Spencer; Roger Thomas took third on M55 Short and Alastair Thomas third against some of the country’s top senior orienteers in the M21 Elite world ranking event.
