The Bassenthwaite annual Family Regatta, again sponsored by The Lakes Distillery, attracted over 180 boats and some 300 crew members and families.

Only one race in the initial series was held on Saturday but Sunday was more promising and a further three races were held.

Local successes saw series wins for Simon Longstaff (ex Crosby) / Jon Denwood (Carlisle) in their Flying Fifteen, Phil and Naomi Smith in an RS200, Mark Ninnim (Newcastle) / Emma Rydal-Smith (Brigham), Dave and Lynn Lawson (Silloth) and John Reekie (Holmrook).

In the large Mirror class Stephen Kirkpatrick with son Henry were the leading local competitors.

The Graduate class were holding their National Championships over the initial weekend and Paul & Emily Clark (Carlisle) recorded an excellent 7th place.

There was one race on Monday afternoon with 100 starters saw further local wins for Mark Somerville (Dalston) / Joe Roberts (Carlisle) in the fast Handicap fleet, Mike More (Preston) / Kayla Sheard (Little Broughton) in a Flying Fifteen, Robin and Erin Dawson in their RS200 and Anthony Woodyear (Braithwaite) / Jo Van Lachterop (Carlisle).

Graham Kirkpatrick (Crosscanonby) / Alan Smith (Harrington) took a deserved second place in their Flying Fifteen.
