Keith Hunt and Simon Young both had cause to celebrate after showing off their golfing prowess at Seascale last Wednesday in the Multi Tee Medal.

The prolonged dry spell and the excellent greens produced a rash of sub-par rounds from the 130 players with Hunt shooting his age to win division one in style with 73 gross and Young, with a gross 66, equalled the Best Gross Score for a member on the Blue Course.

He already held the White Course record set in 2000 when he shot 64 gross.

As mentioned Hunt (9/11) 62 won division one, and only one behind came Mark Sarsfield (6/8)63, while Simon Young (-1, 2)64 took third.

Playing with Keith, Dave Jackman (12/14), equalled Keith’s 62 to take the division two honours from Mark Lightfoot (11/13)65 and Lewis Baker (11)67.

The fine scoring continued into division three where Dylan Stainton (20/22) won with a round of 65, Chris Quin (21/23)66 took second place and Steve Mulholland (23)67 claimed the final spot on countback. Finishing off his good day, Simon Young bagged two of the 16 twos returned.

The low scoring continued into Sunday’s medal event, the Dave Tomkinson Trophy, where Eric Smith (15), after an average first nine finished with a fantastic back nine to lift the trophy with nett 61.

Peter McCormick (21) came second with 65, with Simon O’Kane third (8)66, 4 Mick Dunne (18)68, 5 Nick Sharpe (4)69, 6 Frank Dorgan (12)69, 7 Mickey Benn (7)70, 8 Richard Booth (13)70, 9 Dale Hodgson (5)70 and 10 Steve Challinor (16)70.

The competition gross prize went to Dave Cooper (2) who returned a gross 68, with 11 twos recorded.

The S’Links competitions continue to attract a good entry. Friday’s Bogey saw Ray Teare win division one with +4 from Peter Thompson -1 and Eric Gulliksen -1. The day’s best, though, went to Barry Brough who returned +7 to win division two.

Colin Parnaby’s +3 secured him second place with Geoff Prince +2 claiming third.
