Whitehaven-born goalkeeper Dean Henderson has won the Sky Bet Championship Golden Glove after a superb season which has seen his Sheffield United side win promotion to the Premier League.

Henderson, on loan with the Blades from Manchester United, finished with 21 clean sheets in the Championship - two ahead of Middlesbrough's Darren Randolph.

The 22-year-old was also voted Sheffield United's Young Player of the Season and told the club website that his achievements would not be possible without the rest of the team's efforts.

Henderson said: "It's not possible without my teammates, but I've worked hard every day on the training pitch, it's my first season in the Championship so I'm delighted.

"I try to do my best every Saturday, Tuesday and that's what you've got to do to become the best goalkeeper.

"It's the best feeling in the world to get promoted, coming out here in front of our supporters. Getting the job done last week makes it a little bit easier.

"We wanted to get a result and win the title but unfortunately it wasn't to be, but we had some good teams chasing us down so to come out with promotion is outstanding."

Henderson was pipped by Randolph for inclusion into the Sky Bet Championship and PFA Championship Teams of the Season, but won promotion with the Blades, after they finished in the second automatic promotion spot.

The shot-stopper has recently outlined his desire to stay at Bramall Lane next season.

Along, with the other Sheffield players, he boarded an open-top bus around the city to celebrate their achievements.
