Workington Reds believe new manager Danny Grainger can bring success back to Borough Park.

Reds named Carlisle United’s outgoing skipper, Grainger, as their new boss yesterday and have said he is the man they are pinning their hopes on to revive the ailing club next season and hopefully earn them a return to the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

He will take over the reins in July and has agreed a one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

“We are delighted with the appointment,” said Reds chairman John Mackay. “Danny has got vast experience in professional football and has very good contacts with the various teams he has played at.

“We also believe he has the right character for the job. He has been captain of Carlisle for four years and has excellent communication skills.

“He will lead from the front and he hopes to play some matches so hopefully he will also be an asset on the pitch for us as well, injuries permitting.

“We believe we have the right man for the job and have every confidence he will do the business and be great for Workington Reds.”

Grainger will speak to the Reds players in the near future as they start to prepare for next season.
