Whitehaven AFC U16 Lionesses triumphed in the Cumberland FA League Cup group stage on Sunday, winning all their games and not conceding to book a place in the CFA U16 League Trophy Final next week against Castletown.

In their first game against Milnthorpe, there was to be just one goal as free kick specialist Abby Guilfoyle hit the ball sweetly from 30 yards. The goalkeeper parried the ball but Ashleigh McAllister was on hand to put it in the back of the net for 1-0.

It was tight again against Stanwix but the Lionesses got another 1-0 win. Guilfoyle stepped up again and in literally a carbon copy to the goal in the first match, the goalkeeper parried straight to the following up Mc Allister, for 1-0.

In the last game against Castletown, Whitehaven won 3-0 with a rejigged team to give game time. McAllister scored again for her third of the tournament and then Zara Denvir netted a goal which was richly deserved . A cynical handball gave the Lionesses a penalty for the third, slotted away in the corner by Emily Hewittson.
