Workington’s Station Road B held their nerve in superb fashion as with a 3-3 draw against club rivals, and division two champions, Station Road A they claimed the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League division one title.

Station B’s Tony Elliott took the first frame of the match only to see the A team’s John Teasdale take frame two.

At this point the B team only needed one more frame to secure the title but as Mike Walker won the third the celebrations remained on hold.

The B team’s Simon Frazer delivered the frame win that was required to take the title. At this point there was still an amount of pride to play for even though both teams had already been crowned champions. Two further victories would have seen the A team eclipse the B team’s points total however as Mark Tunstall then put the B team 3-2 up. The final frame of the match was still played in a competitive manner even though the spoils were decided, and in a fitting end it was Geoff Smith who sealed the draw to round off a hugely successful Station Road Club league season.

Workington Golf Club leapfrogged opponents Workington Conservative to finish second in the division one table on the back of a 4-2 home win. Victories for Mark Carruthers, Mark Brasted, Bryan Walker and Phil Sorfleet was enough to take the match win with Julian Plaza and Mike Park recording Cons’ triumphs.

Workington’s Veterans Club finished fourth in division one to complete the playoff places as a result of a 3-3 away draw against division two’s the United Club. Vets captain Kevin Basnett took the first with a brace of 32 breaks and also nicked the leading player trophy in the process. The game will probably be remembered though for the leagues second only three misses and subsequent frame forfeit as

Mike Dawson went down to a subdued Bryan Kendall and Vets other wins came in frames three and six with Clive Lister and Andrew Mitchelhill winning for the United Club to see them finish third in division two.

Maryport Social A took second place in division two as they defeated fourth place Maryport Social B, 5-1. Craig Stuart, Ryan Ismay, Paul Lister, Colin Sealby and Scott Lister all won for the A side with Ben Irving the lone victor for the B team.

Flimby Social may have finished bottom of division one but they went out with a bang by defeating division two’s bottom placed team Workington Legion, 6-0. Paul Vickers, Geoff Banton, Michael Walker, Richard Kirkham, David Teasdale and Dave Farrell produced a clean sweep for the Flimby outfit.
