In the only amateur rugby league game to go escape the weather at the weekend, Egremont claimed the victory over Seaton Rangers’ A team.

But the young Seaton outfit could be proud of their efforts in the Friday night clash under lights at Gillfoot Park.

A side made up predominantly of young players who have come right through the youth system at the club, gave the more experienced Egremont side a real test.

They held their hosts to 24-10 at half time, although in the latter stages Egremont came through to claim the win 38-14 and the league points.

Billy Thompson was in fine form for Egremont with his first half kicking – with two great conversions, one from each touchline.

Lee Cruden raced in for a brace of tries for Egremont, with Billy Thompson, Adam Barton, Toby Corrie, Kevin Brown and Mike Foster also touching down in the win.

Billy Thompson finished the day with four conversions to his name.

Seaton’s tries came courtesy of Euan Nicholson, Todd Wilkinson and Grant Reid, with Mark Walker kicking one conversion.

The remainder of the Iggesund Cumberland League fixtures on Saturday were all washed out due to the heavy rain.
