Workington Reds assistant boss Steven Rudd says there is no reason his side can’t take the points away from top-of-the-table Warrington Town tonight at Borough Park (7.45pm ko).

Rudd said if his side can take their away form into tonight’s clash then there is nobody they cannot beat as they look to escape the Northern Premier League’s relegation zone.

“We have 13 games to go and eight of them are at home, so we need to start getting points at home,” said Rudd.

“Being good away is a major bonus but we need to get the results here as well.

“There is no reason that we can’t take the points from the top sides, they’re not unbeatable. And, hopefully, we can show that tonight.”

Sam Smith is set to return to the line-up tonight, but Dan Wordsworth will miss out, serving the first of his four-match suspension.

There is also a slight doubt around Dan Carmichael who picked up a knock at the weekend and will be assessed ahead of the game. But Kieran Maguire will also come into contention.

One bright spot over the last couple of games is the return of Dave Symington who Rudd says is like a breath of fresh air to have around the side.

Symington came on from the bench during Saturday’s 2-0 win at Marine and his cross led to the first goal, and Rudd believes he can be key in their fightback.

“He is getting there fitness-wise and the more he plays, the better he will get,” added Rudd.

“Dave is just great to have around, he has experience from a young age and just his manner and enthusiasm around the group is key.

“Plus, his skills are there to see. He came on on Saturday and created the first goal with his cross. He can win us games.”

Warrington moved to the top of the league courtesy of a 3-3 draw with Nantwich Town at the weekend, and the fact that previous leaders Farsley Celtic fell to a surprise home defeat to Witton.

Ahead of tonight’s game, Warrington will be assessing winger Jack Dunn, who was forced off just after half-time in the Nantwich game, with a hamstring injury.
