Copeland Amateur Swimming Club finished third in the Cumbria ASA Age Group and County Championships in a very successful performance for the club across the age groups.

The team’s younger contingent finished first in the 100m backstroke 10, 11 and 12 age groups through Noah Oliver, Luke Makin and Jackson Jardine, before Makin and Jardine repeated the effort in the 200m backstroke to win by a considerable margin. Jardine also tasted success in the breaststroke with another first place, while Finley Quayle and Michael Conery finished second.

In the 100m individual medley Oliver gained another second along with Quayle, with Conery third.

Ccontinuing their success, Makin and Jardine claimed another first in their respective age groups. Makin was first, Conery second and Joshua Lowes third. Sol Downton also competed in the 100m individual medley.

In the junior 100m butterfly Lowes and Quayle came away with badges for first place, while in the 50m fly Oliver was first with Jardine and Quayle second and in the 50m freestyle Oliver, Makin and Quayle all came third, with Jardine again first.

Makin improved his position in the 100m freestyle, with Lowes and Quayle also coming second, as Jardine also won in the 12 age group.

James Jennings and Peter Brown also competed in the 50m and 200m freestyle, finishing just outside the places. Makin showed his versatility as he was also fastest in the 400m freestyle for 11 year olds.

Copeland’s girls were also in action with Jaya Sparshott claiming third in the 50m butterfly, while Keisha Pettigrew finished third in the 400m individual medley and Poppy Oliver was third in the 13-year-old 200m breaststroke. Also competing were Ava Gill, Maisie Enright and Katelyn Smith-Naylor.

The team excelled in the senior competition, placing a number of swimmers into the finals to compete for the County Championships trophy.

James Amor, Quayle, Brown and Isaac Hinde all qualified with the latter winning the overall title in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and second in the 100m and 200m butterfly and the 1,500m freestyle.

The girls also featured with Rebecca Wilson winning the 50m freestyle and third in the 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle as Rebecca Amor won the junior and senior titles in the 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly and 100m freestyle as well as second in the 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly and third in the 100m individual medley and 50m freestyle.

Copeland also came away with medals in both junior and senior relays.
